Become an Oregon Science or Math Teacher in the Professional Teacher Education Masters Program
Interested in becoming a science or math teacher?
The Professional Teacher Education Master's Program is a challenging program which prepares science and math teachers for teaching in grades 6-12 and emphasizes the development of a teacher’s ability to develop research-based teaching strategies that make science and mathematics accessible to learners. Specific attention is directed at the interaction of schools, learners, pedagogy, subject matter and curriculum. The program is unique in that it focuses solely on science and math education. This allows you to be in a supportive cohort of high-achieving science and math peers taught by faculty who specialize and conduct research in science and math education. We strive to provide a cutting-edge, high-quality program that will utilize and build upon your content knowledge and experiences to become an innovative middle or high school teacher.
At the end of the program you will have:
- A Master of Science degree in Science Education or Mathematics Education
- An Oregon Initial I Teaching License with authorizations to teach at the middle and high school levels.
- One or more subject matter endorsements. These include:
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Physics (want to teach physics? watch this!)
- Integrated Science
- Basic Mathematics
- Advanced Mathematics
The program consists of 55 graduate-level credits. This includes 9 credits of additional graduate-level coursework in your subject area. We strive to find funding for students ($180,000 in scholarships last year!). Please see below for more information including prerequisites and application procedures.
