Welcome to the Science and Mathematics Education Department (SMED), a unique College of Science department.  We are committed to understanding how to support lifelong science and mathematics learning.

If you want to become a leader in K-12 education, College teaching or in Free-Choice Learning in out-of-school settings, there is a place for you here. We offer Doctoral and Masters degrees in these three areas of concentration.  We also offer a Professional Teacher Education Licensure program, and an Undergraduate Double Degree, in collaboration with the College of Education.

At any given moment faculty and graduate students populating the halls of Weniger Hall, may be talking about a new idea they have read about or a conference they’ve attended or a radio program they listened to. Each faculty member/graduate student is a member of overlapping and diverse communities of learners which enrich our conversations, our courses and approaches to teaching and our scholarship.
