Stan Williamson Memorial Scholarship in Science & Mathematics Education
History of the Award: Family and friends of Stan Williamson, the first Chair of the Department of Science and Mathematics Education, have made contributions to commemorate his life. The fund provides scholarships for students pursuing a M.S. or Ph.D. degree in the Department of Science and Mathematics Education.
Eligibility Criteria: Full-time graduate students pursuing a M.S. or Ph.D. degree in the Department of Science and Mathematics Education. Selection criteria will include students whom:
• Are teachers whose focus is on teaching science/math in elementary, middle or high school;
• Demonstrate leadership capabilities;
• Demonstrate potential to impact science/mathematics education statewide, regionally, nationally or internationally;
• Demonstrate potential, enthusiasm and commitment for quality mathematics/science teaching;
• Demonstrate commitment to students in their pursuit of science/mathematics education.
Award Amount: To be determined by the scholarship committee.
Selection: Selection of recipients will be coordinated by the Department of Science and Mathematics Education Scholarship Committee.

3. Essay (2-3 double-spaced pages in which you respond to the following statements):
a. Your potential, enthusiasm and commitment for quality mathematics/science teaching;

Maggie Niess Scholarship in Mathematics Education
History of the Award: The fund was implemented in 1996 and provides scholarships for pre-service students preparing to teach mathematics.Eligibility Criteria: Pre-service mathematics teachers in the one-year graduate Professional Teacher Education Licensure Program who;
• Demonstrate preparation for teaching through academic coursework, work experiences, and other related experiences and activities;
• Demonstrate potential, enthusiasm and commitment for excellence in mathematics teaching;
• Demonstrate commitment to student learning in elementary, middle or high school mathematics.
Award Amount: To be determined by the scholarship committee.
Selection: Selection of recipients will be coordinated by the Department of Science and Mathematics Education Scholarship Committee.
